I’m still dreaming of a weekend in the country ~ this time in France!
Saturday morning…
Whether your lazily turning pages in a cozy pelmet framed nook…
Usually used as decorative valances poised atop windows…
Scalloped pelmets in a half circle at the ceiling to create a bed crown, a ciel de lit.
They say that March comes in as a lion, goes out like a lamb…
Now that the growl of Winter is behind us, Spring is veritably gamboling down our garden paths.
Designer Rachel Riley‘s roses are nearly tumbling out of her full basket….
Rachel Riley, Loire 2006
“The valley of the river Loire is wide and open as an ocean’s estuary.
Stately poplar, dappled by the water’s reflected silver light, line its
banks, creating a shimmering view that Monet might have painted.
Along the river’s bluffs cluster sleepy pale stone villages or tracts of
verdant parkland elegantly punctuated with stately medieval châteaux,
eighteenth-century gentihommeries, and prim Second Empire mansions
where legions of Madame Bovarys must have sighed away their lives. “

Frederik VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg,
the Danish royal couple share inside the renovations of their new home,
and the six years it took to get things how they wanted.
I hope we get to see some pics after the boxes are unpacked!
Crown Prince Frederik noted that the refurbished rooms are a combination of contemporary design with an antique touch, modern art was painted on the walls next to Rococo style doors that have golden designs:
The interesting thing about modern art to provoke dialogue,” The refurbished rooms combine respectfully restored antiques with contemporary design and historical works of Danish artist with Modern Art, said Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark.
Being a modern couple, we have modern interests, so we try to reconcile this with the tradition, said Crown Prince Frederik. “About the renovation, we have decided to include contemporary art.”
Amalienborg Palace, built in the elegant style of the European Rococo, was modernized for about 30 million €. Since 1828, the so-called Frederik VIII’s Palace in a royal possession and served before the renovation only as a winter residence. The palace is home to the Danish Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and Crown Princess Mary, and their children.

Empress Theodora of Byzantine inspired the pre-fall 2011 collection from Chanel.
“The theme of the collection, Paris-Byzance is a great inspiration on it’s own.
The links and associations with Chanel are rich and plenty. Karl gave Sam (McKnight) and me a sketch giving us a rough idea of the direction he wanted for the look, from then the tone was set. Karl also showed us the world-famous mosaic portrait of Theodora, the Empress of the Byzantine Empire Mosaic from the Saint-Vital de Ravenne Basilica, which very naturally became the inspiration for the show’s makeup. The portrait gave me a focus point : the red eye shadow/liner that she wears on the arch of her eyebrows. This look is all about light and rich textures. The choreography between gold, bronze, black and red can be easily personalized according to the desires of each woman.”

Of soft and golden hue
Pierce through the future’s veil and show
What fate now holds for you.
